The West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) carries out applied agricultural research and education for farmers and rural communities in crop production, animal sciences, horticulture, water quality, economics, rural sociology, forage management, environmental quality and renewable energy. The WCROC is the home of the University of Minnesota Renewable Energy Research and Demonstration Center.

At the WCROC…

WCROC faculty and staff conduct research and outreach involving traditional and alternative production systems, disease management, animal housing systems, erosion constrol methods, horticulture trials, renewable energy systems and rural economic development. Specific projects pertain to:

  • soybean variety trials
  • row spacing and plant population effects on yield and disease control
  • dairy production using confinement and grazing
  • swine behavior and nutrition in alternative and traditional housing
  • research and learning about native plants and flowers
  • research on energy sources such as wind, sun, biofuels and biomass
