The Southern Research and Outreach Center (SROC) provides producers and others with knowledge about crops, soils and livestock systems that are both economically viable and environmentally sensitive. The SROC’s Agricultural Ecology Research Farm is a 200-acre site providing unique opportunities for studies about drainage and water management, as as emerging landscape optimization techniques, alternative crops, biomass renewable energy and water quality improvement.

SROC faculty and staff conduct research and outreach that have wide-ranging goals, with an overall focus on enhancing quality of life factors through rural economic development and the wise use of resources. Specific programs pertain to:

  • integrated crop and weed management strategies
  • wetland and water management
  • precision agriculture technologies
  • soybean cyst nematode biology and management
  • vegetable crop production and processing
  • swine, dairy and beef management systems
  • manure management
  • biomass-based renewable energy
