Northwest Research and Outreach Center

The Northwest Research and Outreach Center (NWROC) is a large and productive research site located where the northern prairie and Red River Valley meet. The research and outreach programs of the NWROC focus on major agricultural commodities and enterprises. The Center’s laboratories and staff support more than 140 research projects and an educational program for University of Minnesota-Crookston students enrolled in agriculture and natural resources programs.

At the NWROC…

NWROC faculty and staff conduct research and outreach involving agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, animal science, natural resources, small grains, potato harvesting, sugarbeet production and soil and water quality. Specific programs pertain to:

  • wheat, barley and soybean varietal development
  • production management issues related to disease, insect and weed control
  • precision agriculture technologies
  • dairy and beef production
  • natural environment management
  • native prairie restoration
